Hosted by Andrew Smith from the Atlantic Masonry Institute, will provide details about a bricklaying/masonry program that is being introduced to high schools across NS. A program that started with a pilot back in 2019 has now evolved to over 20 high schools across Atlantic Canada. The masonry industry has never been busier, but an available skilled workforce is not a new problem to the industry. The Atlantic Masonry Institute works with schools boards, and individual schools to create real partnerships using industry funds. Andrew will provide a brief history of the program, how the program could be implemented into your schools as well as some of the feedback provided by both teachers and students. He will also speak about the importance of partnering schools with local contractors in their area to properly introduce students to a masonry career, and provide an opportunity for summer employment if desired. The Atlantic Masonry Institute is currently running this program in 8 high schools across NS and is looking to expand.
